I went on Autoblog for the first time yesterday since the new year. When did they change to this new garbage layout? I see they are trying to be a Cars.com or Edmunds with a used car sales search engine. It it just cluttering up the site and seems to be making it run slower.
Now that I am no longer employed by a major auto manufacture I'm glad I won't have to use Autoblog as one of my daily sources of industry news.
End rant.

I'm still pissed with what Edmunds did to their Insideline section a few years back...

Could you please explain this bit? Why would a major manufacterer obligate its employees to use Autoblog?

There was no obligation, but I was a business strategist so keeping an eye on industry news was part of my job.

That relatively tiny search bar is ok with me, compared to the cluttered, clumsy old site, with side bars and tabs up the wazoo. The new site finally has decent mobile integration as well. Another thing that used to be horrible about the old site was auto-playing AOL videos. As in, as soon as the page loads, the video starts playing, audio and all. Sometimes there were multiple embedded videos that would auto-play at once. That bugged the hell out of me. What is this supposed to be, an auto news site or a Japanese boner-pill pop-up ad? It remains to be seen if the auto-playing video thing is fixed for good with the new site.

For me it's not just the search bar and new tabs, it's that it seems they are changing their focus from "obsessively covering the auto industry" to "come here for your used car search". I don't even see the dedicated pages to each Auto show anymore.
